Sorrow and Joy
Sorrow and Joy | צער וצהלה
Olfactory Installation
Every exhibit in the Israel Museum carries a unique scent that is difficult to define in words. But the moment a scent molecule meets the nose, memories and emotions flood the heart. Through a combination of story, scent, and items from the museum's collection, we experience the peak moments and valleys of humanity in our region.
We have concocted scent points that map moments of sorrow and joy in the museum through osmological research (the field of studying scent and how it is perceived and processed by the body and memory).
The project follows the tear: a physical expression of the emotional world.
Join a fragrant journey, happy and sad to tears: you are invited to wander through the Archaeology Wing and the Jewish Art and Culture Wing and search for the scent points.
